The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has instructed all universities and degree-awarding institutions to immediately switch to 100% online classes. This decision, which comes from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aims to ensure that education continues while saving national resources. All lectures, coursework, and academic activities must now be conducted digitally to support the ongoing efforts to conserve energy and resources in the country.
Along with the move to online education, HEC has also directed universities to adopt a four-day workweek, from Monday to Thursday. This change is designed to reduce operational costs. Furthermore, universities should allow up to 50% of their staff and faculty to work from home on alternate days to help manage resources better.
